Chandrayaan 3 Launch Date
Chandrayaan-3 is the third planned lunar mission of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
ISRO chief K Sivan has said that Chandrayaan-3, India's third lunar mission, will be launched in 2022.
Chandrayaan 3 Background:
Following Chandrayaan-2, the lander's smooth landing attempt failed after a successful orbital insertion, and another lunar mission was proposed to demonstrate a smooth landing.
The subsequent failure of Vikram Lander led to another mission to demonstrate the landing capabilities required for the 2024 lunar polar exploration project jointly proposed with Japan.
Chandrayaan-3 is a mission repeat of Chandrayaan-2, but only includes a lander and rover similar to Chandrayaan-2. It will not have an orbit.
The orbit launched during Chandrayaan-2 will be used for Chandrayaan-3.
Design:
The lander for the Chandrayaan-3 will have only four-throttle engines. Chandrayaan-2, unlike Vikram, had five 800 N engines, the fifth being a hub-mounted and with constant propulsion.
The Chandrayaan-3 lander will be equipped with a laser Doppler velocimeter (LDV).
Budget:
In December 2019, ISRO requested initial funding for the project, which will cover ₹75 crores rupees, including ₹60 crores in machinery, equipment, and expenditure.
Other capital expenditures, the remaining ₹15 crores are claimed under the revenue expenditure heading.
Confirming the existence of the project, ISRO chief Mr. K Sivan said it would cost about ₹615 crores.
